Raised and educated in Salt Lake City, Utah, Irene Rampton is a graduate of Illustration and Design from Utah Technical College. Later studies include figure painting, conception, and portrait work. She has over 20 years experience as a freelance artist and illustrator. Irene works most often with the mediums of watercolor and acrylics. Drawn to painting people she encounters in everyday life, the core of her work revolves around faces and figures of women, although men and groupings of both are also prevalent in her work.
Irene's paintings vary from mildly representational images to gently elusive abstractions. Stylistically, her work captures the essence of personality whether she is painting a close friend, a stranger, or imaginary figure. She strives to employ a non-objective feel which combines solid composition with loose application. Her goal is to create art that is neither realism nor abstraction, but her interpretation of the interrelationships of the two forms.
